Cloud Computing: Emerging Technology

The word cloud means the internet or a network. Cloud computing is gaining pace in the market. It is based on the virtualization technique and uses remote data servers on the internet to manage the data. The data on the cloud can be in any form, such as audio, video, graphics, files, images, etc.

Various operations can be performed with the help of cloud computing, including developing applications, backup storage, streaming, and analyzing data. Cloud engineering certification courses can help you with learning these operations. Firstly, you must understand the basics of cloud computing.

What is Cloud Computing?

Cloud computing is based on the virtualization approach, which is a technique of splitting physical resources into many logical resources. For example, the central processing unit (CPU). Sometimes, depending on the requirement, virtualization also includes adding up the resources.

In cloud computing, the formation of a hypervisor takes place mainly with the help of the virtualization technique. The Hypervisor is a piece of software or firmware that creates and runs the virtual machine. A hypervisor is also called a virtual machine manager (VMM).

The Hypervisor is of two types:

Type-1 Hypervisor

  • Known as Bare Metal Hypervisor Type-1
  • It acts as its own operating system
  • It is a type of Hypervisor that runs on the host server hardware without an underlying operating system (OS).
  • For example, VMware ESXi

Type-2 Hypervisor

  • Known as Hosted Hypervisor.
  • It runs within a conventional operating system environment
  • Used only for testing and learning purposes
  • It does not have direct access to the hardware and resources.
  • For example, Oracle

Why Cloud?

Cloud is gaining an important place in every aspect of life. As the world is rapidly moving towards technology, there is a need for more advanced and convenient ways to store and manage data because, as said by Clive Humby, “data is the new oil,” and indeed, it is.

Day by day, new technologies are emerging, and people are adopting them expeditiously. Recently, Open AI has launched a chatbot, an AI-based text converter, and a replier. Furthermore, technology like deep learning, machine learning, and big data needs the cloud to manage data proficiently. Without much effort, you can enroll yourself in cloud engineering certification and get certified.

Features of Cloud Computing

Cost-Effective

As no such big infrastructure is required for the deployment of the cloud, it becomes very much affordable. As it works on the principle of virtualization, many virtual machine managers can be installed on the same hardware which helps in reducing the cost of physical components.

Reliability

The chance of the Hypervisor’s failure is significantly less, making it more reliable. If, in any case, data gets lost, it can be quickly recovered without many complications. Cloud is based on the distributed systems of the network, due to which data can be readily available and provided to the user.

Migration and High Availability

Migration is the technique of moving the virtual machine from one host to another host or from one database to another database. Migration is of mainly five types in the cloud:-

  • Cold Migration: Movement of the virtual machine to another hot in a powered-off state.
  • P2V Migration: In this, a physical computer gets converted to a virtual one.
  • V2V Migration: It is like P2V migration, except that a source machine is already a virtual machine.
  • Suspended Migration: The virtual machine migrates in a paused state.
  • Live migration: Migrating the machine into the powered-ON state. This is very useful as it causes significantly less downtime.

Fault Tolerance

When the host crashes or fails, the VM gets restarted on another host, so there is significantly less downtime which is only related to the time taken for the VM to restart. Fault tolerance avoids split-brain situations, which can lead to two active copies of the VM after recovering from failure. There is the automatic detection of server failure, and it does not require any admin interface.

Increased Efficiency and Efficacy

Cloud provides the service based on the client’s requirement, which makes it more customer-centric. It also compromises the feature of resource check that ensures the capacity is always available in order to restart all the virtual machines affected by server failure.

Independence of Location and Gadget

Users can access the system without taking care of the location and device using a web browser.

Application of Cloud Computing

Education

Cloud provides virtual classrooms for students and comprises various advantages like easy access and data availability.

Agriculture

It can be used to store data related to crops and water required for each crop in one unified database with the help of the cloud.

Business

The business services need to be kept open 24*7 for the customers, which is why data needs to be serviced and stored. Cloud makes this easy and affordable.

Conclusion

Skill in cloud computing can help individuals and organizations to bring innovation and change in new emerging technologies. The use of the cloud in different aspects of life can sustain the advanced upbringings of complex and valuable technologies like Big Data.
